I really don’t know why this Italian 5-piece describes themselves as “metal / deathcore / dubstep”. They sound more like a hybrid of metalcore and deathcore, a cross of Black Dahlia Murder, Bleeding Through et al. And that’s it. I am still scratching my head to find exactly why they need to put “dubstep” in there. It doesn’t sound like the “dubstep” I am familiar with, and thankfully it certainly doesn’t sound like the god awful Big Chocolate mixes of some recent metal tracks.
Instead, the opener ‘One Second: Our Eternity’ sounds more like just a simple mix of electro-breaks and a touch of Dave Tipper‘s wobbling bass. If anything, this single track and the trickle of electronics is completely irrelevant amongst the metalcore sounds that dominate the other tracks on the Human Improvement Process‘ debut S.T.A.R.S. Where The Browning Project and Born Of Osiris are not shy of mixing it up a little, this band are extremely withdrawn when it comes to dabbling outside their familiar areas of American metalcore, and add little to the overall dynamic of this short EP. For instance on ‘Weight Of Guilt’, the only added parts of electronics are a quick wobble before a thrashy part and again later before a breakdown. Unfortunately, this a below average release from a country that has produced some fascinating metal releases in recent years.
